On the living dead

Published in Oxymorons and poets (2022) a Wingless Dreamer anthology that has been available through Amazon (the link to

the listing is embedded in the image below) – this work developed from a little multi-lingual wordplay (the original prompts

were written first in Chinese, Sanskrit, Latin and Old Norse before the English text was settled through a process of creative

self-translation).

On the living dead

To live or to exist

is to have life and existence,

to make a living and provide food,

to be flexible and adaptable.

Unpleasant people

and corpses

may be wretched, stupid, dangerous

and cause death.

To die is a form of inactivity

associated with

the deadly, fatality and killing …

it is absolute,

it can be bloody and

it is persistent.

Euphemisms

such as ‘solitude’, ‘retirement’ and ‘a mystery’

veil its swiftness, speed and velocity …

the malicious lash

known as ‘dead’

(even ‘rigid’, ‘vain’ or ‘useless’).

The living die.

Those enliven the spirit of the dead.
